Most migrant women in Chinese cities work nine to 10 hours a day without one day off in a week, according to a recent survey by the All-China Women's Federation.

Almost 25 percent of the 1,000 rural women surveyed worked over 11 hours a day and only 28.2 percent got pay for working more than eight hours a day.

Official statistics indicate that China has 150 million migrant workers and 30 percent of them are women.

Half of the women interviewed had no labor contracts with their employers and 21 percent were fired for getting pregnant or giving birth to children, the survey showed.

Over 60 percent of the surveyed only seek help from their husbands, boyfriends or friends, instead of government agencies or women's federations, when facing job difficulties or violation of their rights.

They urged governments to offer more training on job skills and specify regulations to punish behaviors violating women workers' rights and interests.
